His Majesty The King granted interest payment support Kidu to borrowers, as an immediate
relief measure to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Following His Majesty's Address
the Nation on 10th April 2020, interest payment support Kidu was provided to all loans
as of 10th April 2020.The Kidu was provided in two phases, for twelve months, as follows:
Phase I (3 months: April to June 2020): 50% interest payment support was granted as the Druk Gyalpo's Relief Kidu (DGRK). The Financial Service Providers bore the remaining 50%, thereby providing 100% interest relief in total to the borrowers.
Phase II (9 months: July 2020 to March 2021): 100% interest payment support was granted as DGRK from July 2020 to September 2020, followed by 50% Interest Payment Support from October 2020 to March 2021.
As of March 2021, total interest payment support amounted to Nu. 11.06 billion out of which Nu. 9.18 billion was granted as DGRK and Nu. 1.88 billion was borne by the Financial Service Providers for 139,096 loan account holders. The interest payment support granted as the Druk Gyalpo's Relief Kidu provided immediate economic relief to the borrowers during the pandemic and also helped the financial sector to avert build-up of non-performing loans.
Moving forward, in view of the continued uncertainties posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, His
King has graciously commanded the continuation of the Interest Payment Support Kidu for the next
15 months for all eligible borrowers.
Borrowers who continue to require the 50% Interest Payment Support Kidu must now apply for the Kidu. Applications will be open for 3-month cycles over the next 15 months. Please Click Here to indicate whether you require Kidu support.
